Inviting customers to the Testdrive environment

In this walkthrough, we'll show you how to invite your customers to Testdrive

Walkthrough Summary

  • Log in to Testdrive Portal
  • Fill in and submit the customer invitation form
  • Confirm the invite was sent successfully
  • In order to invite customers to use the Testdrive environment check you have the following

    • A valid account in the VMware TestDrive environment, signup here if you don't and follow this guide
    • Super User Access
    • A valid SFDC/VMstar opportunity ID/Deal Registration ID which is associated with the customer (optional, see below)

    *DON'T PANIC!*

    Please note that if you do NOT provide an SFDC opportunity/deal registration ID in the customer invitation wizard, the account will be created BUT WILL ONLY BE VALID FOR 5 DAYS.

    You DO have the option to add an SFDC opp/deal ID later on, which will then extend the customer account by a further 30 days!

    OK now we've got the panicking over with, open your favorite web browser and navigate to the Testdrive Portal at

    From the Dashboard Page, click the "Invite Users" button under the blue Users card which will open up an invite form for you to fill out.

    Next, you'll have the option to enter a Salesforce Opportunity ID.

    If you're a VMware employee, you have the option to enter the SFDC Opportunity ID from VMstar for the customer you're inviting (this is in the format of an 8 digit number). Alternatively you can enter the opportunity ID from the AirWatch Salesforce instance. When viewing the opportunity in AirWatch's salesforce, the opportunity ID is everything after "salesforce.com/" in the browser window. (More details available on Salesforce here)

    If you're a VMware Partner, you must enter YOUR Partner ID and the SFDC Deal Registration ID for the customer you're inviting. This is in the format 
    ORTN-#####.

    Enter the user's info and click Next.

    If you try to submit the form without providing a valid SFDC ID, you'll get a warning dialog.

    Continue with the registration and enter a username for the users along with job title, region, and industry segment. 

    You can pick and choose which 'Services' you want your customer to have access to. If a service is checked ON the user will be able to turn the service on if they choose to. If a service is OFF in this list then the user will NEVER be able to turn it on, ever.  Last, click invite.

    On a successful submission, you'll get a 'Invitation successfully sent' message.
